Twelve Hour Shifts
Ryan Smith
Day
Humble Day, Dusk now lingers in your glow
Basking in the warmth you have laboured to sow.
Working Day, relinquish your tools to rest
Cease your toils; you've more than passed today's test.
Weary Day, labours you must do are done
Gently now, set down your weighted sun.
Show your fond talent before you must go
Bend Mie's colours to let a sunset flow.
Scatter the light of the blues and the greens
Let oranges and reds melt across your scene.
Without your fervour the colours will fade
Yet your warmth remains with the impact made.
Night
Oh brave Night, do you hear the bugle call
Heralding Day's turn to ascend the wall.
In Dawn's light the ghosts and the ghouls retreat
Banished now are the foul horrors you beat.
Your star spangled shield protected the nest
Resolute you stood guard o'er those at rest.
Oh noble Night, who is cold and weary
Retreat now, and let Day take the aerie.
Warm yourself in the pale sunrise's glow
Sun yourself, your duties you may forgo.
Twelve hours labour earns twelve hours rest
Twelve hours time returns your Nightly test.
