Start Again
Kim Firmston
It starts with a POW
A crash, a bang
A sinister night
And a man leaping from rooftop to rooftop.
Wait – A man? No
Erase, erase, erase, erase.
Start again
It starts with a POW
A crash, a bang
A sinister night
And a woman leaping from rooftop to rooftop
Across the gap between buildings
She lands with a rap
A tap, a tip
She clicks along in her thigh-high dominatrix boots until
Snap!
The heel breaks
That doesn't work!
Erase, erase, erase, erase.
Start again
It starts with a POW
A crash, a bang
A sinister night
And a woman leaping from rooftop to rooftop
Across the gap between buildings
She lands with a thump
A skid, a slam
Her bright yellow Doc Martin work boots
Supporting her ankles
And giving her grip
As she chases the villain through the darkness
Rooftop to ladder to alley to fence
Bullets ringing off brick and steel
Stopped only by her battle bikini
And sheer luck as her breasts and chest
Torso and ribs
Arms and thighs lay exposed and sexy
Sexy? Now? Really?
Erase, erase, erase, erase.
Start again
It starts with a POW

A sinister night
And a woman leaping from rooftop to rooftop
Across the gap between buildings
She lands with a thump
A skid, a slam
Her bright yellow Doc Martin work boots
Supporting her ankles
And giving her grip
As she chases the villain through the darkness
Rooftop to ladder to alley to fence
Bullets ringing off brick and steel
Her maneuverable full body armor,
With its accents of yellow flashes, to match the boots,
Moves along with her
As she makes one last leap
Knocks the villain into the wall
Pulls out her gun - No
Metal bar – no
Razer fan – no
Fists – yeah
With leather gloved hands she pulls back her fist
Locks onto the villain's face
And smashes
Not asking one question
No even why they did it.
Or how they got here.
Or what started this all
Or why they thought violence was the only course of action
Because she is just as violent
Erase, erase, erase, erase.
Start again

Across the gap between buildings
She lands with a thump
A skid, a slam
In her bright yellow Doc Martin work boots
Supporting her ankles
And giving her grip
As she chases the villain through the darkness

Bullets ringing off brick and steel
Her maneuverable full body armor,
With its accents of yellow flashes, to match the boots,
Moves along with her
As she makes one last leap
Knocks the villain into the wall
With leather gloved hands she pulls back her fist
Knocks the gun from their hand
And says, "It's going to be all right."
She will get them the help they need.
She will make sure they don't fall through the cracks.
She will wait with them for the police
And explain the details
And arrange a good counselor
And stop in on their family
Because she knows how hard life can be
How expectations can push you into a corner.
She hasn't always made the best choices herself.
But there is always a chance to
Erase, erase, erase, erase.
And
Start again.
