Driving Across Montana
Chris Denholm
Fence posts I followed stood upright-
Except a few downed by wind
Or neglected by a rancher off his game.
The cows in range of that chaotic sight
Though usually thought of as thick-skinned
Were so flummoxed and utterly dejected
They hung their heads in shame.
